After a grand preview in Mumbai that took place on September 2, the eagerly awaited fashion extravaganza kickstarted in Chandigarh followed by Kolkata and now showcased in Bangalore over the weekend. The show featured Nida Mahmood, Raghavendra Rathore, Ashish N Soni and Wendell Rodricks on Day 1 and featured Pankaj & Nidhi, Gaviin Miguel, Asmita Marwa and Vikram Phadnis on day 2 of BPFT.
Bombay Bun Maska by Nida Mahmood: Known for her quirky designs and prints and the very unconventional silhouettes for women, this time Nida Mahmood displayed a collection even for the male dressers. Called “Bombay Bun Maska” the name is inspired by the iconic ‘Bun Maska’ of Bombay and also refers to the free spirited people who are non- pretentious and believe in creating a style all their own. It is Boho chic at its best, for the very structured garments with a few fluid ones thrown in. Adding some exciting touches were the LED lights on the flowers that dazzled on the heads of the models. Sultry Bollywood actress Shazahn Padamsee walked the ramp for Nida.
Club Jodhpur by Raghavendra Rathore: Showing his newly launched diffusion line, Raghavendra Rathore gave the fashion conscious a great prèt brand that was started a year ago for men. A lot of importance is paid to the different fabrics and the subtle detailing which Raghavendra is known for. “Club Jodhpur” is ethnic wear with Jodhpur jackets, achkans, kurtas, churidars and Nehru jackets along with long embroidered waistcoats. The perfect finish and surface embellishments are an integral part of the collection. Bollywood heartthrob Kunal Kapoor featured as the showstopper for Rathore.
Ashish N Soni: When it comes to creating relaxed easy comfortable clothing, Ashish N Soni knows his job and his collection is perfect for that holiday season with very ‘light as air’ fabrics specially created for the garments. The colours and prints were very relevant and more like the kaleidoscope pattern which moves into minuscule shapes. The colours Ashish chose are on a pastel palette for the resort look that will work beautifully for an evening by the beach sipping a long cool drink or even for a more formal outing.
Fash Splash by Wendell Rodricks: The Finale of Day 1 featured Wendell Rodricks whose collection was inspired by the new Blenders Pride celebration pack created by him. Wendell Rodricks worked on a backdrop of black and added a splash of bright colours like chilli red, glow yellow, hot pink and neon orange for his collection called “Fash Splash”. The name spells beach and resort glamour but doubles up effortlessly for the Red Carpet walk. Perfect for the festive season just around the corner, Wendell kept the silhouettes very stylish and western with a hint of fusion touches. Former Model and actor Evelyn Sharma featured as Wendell’s showstopper.
Liquid Gold Tree by Pankaj and Nidhi: Intricate craftsmanship and finish is the hallmark of the designing duo, Pankaj and Nidhi and their latest collection called “Liquid Gold Tree” lives up to the work of this very creative husband and wife team. The collection is very formal evening wear; with each eclectic piece making a strong fashion statement with its workmanship and the beautiful styling details. For the debutant designer duo, this would be the first time they have essentially used gold, since they normally do bright colours and are known for our contrasts in black, white and grey but gold has never appeared for a collection. The patterns are almost tree of life like in a gold avaatar with plenty of black and colours of precious stones like agate, blue, quartz blue, sapphire and ruby. Sizzling beauty Angela Jonnson walked the ramp for the ace designers.
Stairway to Heaven (Heavenly Abode) by Gaviin Miguel: To feel beautiful and always remain beautiful is the theme for Gaviin Miguel's collection called “Stairway to Heaven (Heavenly Abode)”. With a theme that is so pure and ethereal, Gaviin's choice of colours is very heavenly and angelic with ivory and champagne blending gradually into lemon, light pink, lavender, ice blue with bits of nude shades and finally of course white. There are fabrics like diaphanous airy chiffon and organza to create that surrealism in clothes. Known for his Red Carpet creations there are long gowns and some very sexy striking minis with amazing construction and fabric drapes. Model/Actress Dipannita Sharma looked heavenly in Gaviin Miguel’s collection.
La Vie En Rose by Asmita Marwa: For designer Asmita Marwa her “La Vie En Rose” line is perfect resort holiday wear for men and women. It is a collection that is inspired by the 60s and 70s Woodstock era of fashion when freedom, peace and music expression defined the lives of people. Asmita has fairly structured silhouettes but there is a lot of fluidity in the cropped pants, tunics, shirts and she has added a few feathers for collars that create the hippy chic era look. Men's shirts follow the batik story in pink, blue and green with lots of black. The detailing is restricted to raw edges which appear for collars and hemlines and the interesting addition is press buttons, which are the highlight of the collection.
Vikram Phadnis: Razzle dazzle is the trade mark of Bollywood’s popular designer Vikram Phadnis whose collection is full of glamorous creations and the beauty of textures. The collection is in two blocks – one with beige and lime green – two very contrasting colours and the other is in corals a very strong tone. The collection features lots of saris, sequined pants with sherwanis for women and some interesting touches that make the garments totally eye catching and desirable. For stylish creations that feature traditional as well as modern touches then Vikram Phadnis gives the right style directions. Royal beauty Soha Ali Khan dazzled in Vikram’s creation.
The Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2011 is supported by the best in the Industry- Alison Woodham for choreography, Ambika Pillai for makeup and features only the finest runway models.
